ESG reporting at a firm level

Hi all, how many of your companies have started ESG reporting? If so, are you working with a consultant to calculate your impact of business operations? Or are you calculating it yourself? Are you purchasing offsets? I've been getting a lot of cold calls about this, mainly from a UK-based company. We are not yet at this point, but it seems like we'd want to work with a US-based company, and we'd want to make sure to offset emissions reputably or approach this some other way. Appreciate your thoughts and any recommendations on companies or pathways. Thanks,

Simona

Hi Simona - We have started digging into carbon emissions accouting, so part of ESG, this year. We are doing it as a larger effort of the AIA Large Firm Round Table firms. Between the collaborative, lessons learned, and guidance provided by that group, an EPA spreadsheet, and asking lots of questions, we are doing it ourselves. We are starting with our Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 - Business Travel emissions to try and keep the scope managable.

Simona, We use Climate Impact Partners https://www.climateimpact.com/ and have found a lot of benefits from having an audited/certified emissions calculation and offset approach. I view it like LEED for green buildings – yes, you can design a green building, but a certified one is better recognized and goes through a more rigorous process (typically). The auditing process is good for us and we are able to have good conversations with out auditors. Helps a lot with CDP reporting as well. We are also participating in the LFRT approach but I would personally be hesitant to drop a 3rd party certification for a self-certified approach.
