CS-v4 SSc2:Site development - protect or restore habitat

Site with no existing greenfield

Hi everyone

We are working on a site which is previously developed with no existing greenfield or natural area.

Just to be 100% sure: this credit can´t be achieved if the site does not have no existing greenfield or natural area.

Thanks in advance

Agustin

Hi Agustin, It is fine if your project does not have existing greenfield. This credit is about both protecting what's existing (if applicable) as well as restoring habitat to areas that did not previously have it. In short, if you have vegetated area within your project boundary, you can achieve this credit if you have enough qualifying space and design it appropriately.   And yes, Opt 2 is available if you don't qualify for Opt 1.

Thank you guys.  That was my first interpretation but I needed a second opinion. Best Regards!

Hi Agustin,
Yes, agree with Allen and Emily. LEED BD+C v4 guide page 165 step 1 second bullet states: "If no greenfield areas exist on site, continue to Step 4.” On step 4, LEED guides the project team to select option 2-financial support. This option is applied to projects with 100% greenfield sites, or cannot meet the requirements for on-site restoration, or choose not to conduct restoration. So, no existing greenfield or natural area is under these conditions, which project cannot meet the requirements for on-site restoration.
