Construction waste ordering and reporting platform Beta

I have aquaintances at a new startup called Dumptd that is launching a platform to make it easier to order waste solutions online while providing tracking and reporting options. They are looking for beta test projects. If you are interested, contact Clayton (below).

Dumptd is an early stage startup trying to solve the problem of real-time waste diversion tracking. Put simply, making your life easier with your sustainability reporting.

It is the first on-demand logistics platform specifically designed to connect a qualified network of independent haulers with construction waste generators through our cloud-based platform to identify, track, measure and ultimately improve their waste sustainability goals.

We’re looking for curious, early adopters to join the beta group and test the platform on one of your current or upcoming projects and provide feedback. Piloting Dumptd would come at no cost to you.

Scott, they have some interesting phrasing in their description, without a website to look at I'm wondering what they actually do. Is it just providing an interface for tracking waste? Or are they actually getting involved in the labor process somehow? If it's just a reporting platform it seems like the hauling companies would be their target audience. All, Jennifer Taranto and I spoke with Dumptd in December 2022, and came out with several observations. The good:

Dumptd is another middleman in the process, linking CMs to waste haulers. As such, they attempt to automate the process and offer replicable and “cheaper” services by reaching out to any local hauler willing to take the haul. More competition and supply = potentially lower prices.
CMs pay Dumptd, they pay the haulers. Haulers don’t get paid until they provide waste documentation and a receipt form the facility they transported the waste too. Haulers also have to pay a subscription fee.
For smaller jobs or jobs with unique dumpster placement, they have a tool in which you can use google maps and pinpoint exactly where you need a dumpster delivered.
You can set a project waste diversion goal that is carried through the project, and can utilize a “green project” type where you set requirements.
You can use their platform to keep track of all waste reporting documents over the life of a project, over multiple projects, or over your portfolio (as long as you used Dumptd for the project).
You can organize delivery, pickup and swap requests directly from their app.

The potentially bad:

The platform is still being built out, but (as of early December) it isn’t the easiest to use.
Much like a dating app, the platform becomes much better as more haulers sign up for it. If you are in an area where only one hauler is signed up or available, good luck.
There is a very real risk of inconsistency. In our conversations, Dumptd could not guarantee that there would not be a instance where a pickup is missed.
1. By putting out a request and hoping it is filled, there is no guarantee that a hauler will fill your order during the timeframe requested.
2. If your project has requirements some haulers cannot meet or want to meet (waste diversion %, LEED reporting, source separated loads, RCI facility requirements), your project can potentially further shrink the opportunities for timely or consistent pickups/swaps to where no hauler will fulfill your order in time (worst case scenario - if at all)

We really liked the idea behind it, and hope the platform is further refined going forward. Currently though, it wouldn’t work for what we need to maintain consistency and accuracy in our market sector. Hope this helps. @Scott, by all means. I beleive we shared it with them during our meeting but feel free to share. One item I would add is that I have been working with the local Boston RCI certified C+D processing facility and have received lower pricing for uncontaminated source separated materials (clean GWB, Wood, ABC, metal). As more sophisticated owners ramp up waste diversion requirements and markets move towards incentivizing source separation, Dumpdt could benefit from understanding the potential benefits of assisting CM/GCs with these efforts and share the savings. i.e. If clean+dry source separated GWB is ~40% cheaper per ton under an agreement and Dumpdt is just charging me the same amount as a normal commingled dumpster, why would I use them?
