Is the LCA a design or construction credit for LEED?

Hello all,

We have done several LCA for LEED, and we submitted them with the construction review since that is how it's defined in the LEED guideline, however, on LEED online it appears as a design credit. While I support and push that the LCA process starts during the design phase to be able to assess the impacts and take decisions in the project, it makes more sense for it to be submitted during construction since at that point we would have a more accurate picture of the project, so my questions is:

For LEED is it a design or construction credit? And if it is a construction credit, what happens if we submit it during design?

Thank you,

Camilo, The only way I have found to determine if a credit is a Design credit, or a Construction credit is to filter the credits on a LEED Online project. At the top middle of the credit page there is a filter. The LCA credit shows up as a Design credit. And that’s the way we always do it on my projects, submit it during Design stage. We do the calculation again later for other purposes. But we normally don’t submit it again. If a new calculation would give a different result than what we have earned points for, then I would reopen the credit during Construction and alter the points so that they are correct. Good luck!

Thank you for the insight Maria! Will keep that in mind for future projects.

When I filter the credits on our project in LEED online, LCA shows as a construction credit. The project is v4.1. I had the perception that LCA could be submitted and awarded before construction. Can anyone explain?
