Situation:
Working on an all electric urban community college classroom building. The domestic water heating is provided by a series of heat pump water heaters. The domestic water heating baseline according to Table G3.1.1-2 Baseline Service Water-Heating System - School/university = Gas storage water heater.
Questions
1) Is there any further LEED specific clarifications which would change the baseline to an electric water heater? Assuming the gas baseline is correct we have determined the appropriate local utility tariff for the baseline gas usage.
2)The energy model we are using carries the gas fixed monthly fees forward to the proposed model. I assume that we can ignore these costs when reporting energy use and cost for the proposed model since it is all electric?

Under LEED v4 the baseline is 90.1-2010. The baseline water heater is an electric storage tank. You appear to be looking at 90.1-2016 which is the referenced standard for LEED v4.1. Which version are you using?
Yea I would not apply gas rates to electric usage.

Hi Marcus,
It looks like I mixed up the baselines from two different versions of ASHRAE 90.1.
I was looking at the ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2016 Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low Rise Residential Buildings for reference to the baseline water heating usage. Table G3.1.1-2 Baseline Service Water-Heating System shows - School/university Gas storage water heater.
When I reference 90.1-2010 documents it appears that the baseline water heater is supposed to be the same as the water heater in the proposed design as noted below. Is that correct?
Baseline Building Water heaters in the baseline system will be the same as those in the proposed design, using
the actual component except when the proposed design has a heat pump water heater, in
which case the baseline building system shall have an electric storage water heater.

Correct the baseline water heater in 90.1-2010 woul be an electric storage water heater.
