Hi,

Our team has a question about LEED-ND: Walkable requirement in section M (Building height to street ratio), the requirement is to comply with the 40% of the block length.

Our project contains a mixture of blocks with buildings and blocks with just landscape features with circulation networks circulated around and/or between them. These landscape feature blocks with no building act like pocket gardens serving people from different parts of the project.

When counting the total “block length”, the inclusion of these garden blocks adds a lot of unqualified block lengths to the equation.

The question is whether our team can count only block length with buildings or do we have to include landscape and recreation areas. It would make sense if only building blocks should be counted for compliance with the requirement's intent to provide a sense of “enclosure” pedestrian comfort.
