EBOM-v4 EQc7:Green cleaning - products and materials

Disinfectants with EPA Registration No. and on List N: Disinfectants for Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Few green disinfectants (e.g. Green Seel, UL or EPA Safer Choice Standard certified) are available in Hong Kong market.

Our clients proposed two commonly used disinfectants:

  1. Virex II 256_Disinfectant Cleaner 2 x 2.5L (EPA Registration No. 70627-24, List N: Disinfectants for Coronavirus (COVID-19))
  2. Forward DC_Disinfectant All Purpose Cleaner (EPA Registration No. 70627-10)

I am wondering if these products can fulfill the requirements of green cleaning products.

Technically the disinfectants you mentioned will meet the minimum requirements of LEED, but if you really want to "green" them, I would recommend that you use a disinfectant that has a different active ingredient that a Quaternary Ammonium Compound.  In the LEED Safety First Pilot Credit on Cleaning and Disinfecting, it goes one step further than just being on EPA's List N to also address "greener" active ingredients such as hydrogen peroxide.  I suspect that the product distributor you are working with sells Diversey products since both that you mentioned are made by them.  So you might try Diversey's Oxivir which is hydrogen peroxide based.  Other companies make similar products.  But the goal should be to use a disinfectant approved by the appropriate regulatory bodies in your country that uses a greener active (e.g., hydrogen peroxide, citric acid, ehtanol, etc), and one that is concentrated regardless of the manufacturer.
