EO 14057 and Federal Building Performance Standards

Hi all,

I'm curious if anyone has insight as to the "New Federal Building Performance Standards" that were announced in May of 2021 and then referenced again when E.O. 14057 came out. The memorandum for heads of agencies that was sent out with E.O. 14057 said that the CEQ would issue these standards, but I can't find a commitment to when. I think that 'implementation instructions' for E.O. 14057 are supposed to come out in April, but I'm not clear if the building performance standards are supposed to be available then as well?

I'm getting a little antsy (excited?) about what these new standards will mean for some of our projects, if anyone has any information that is acceptable to share, I would love to hear it.

Thank you!

Kim

Wonder how that relates to Executive Order on Dec 8th 2021 regarding all the GSA buildings? Best, Luke

Hi Luke, I suspect we're talking about the same executive order: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/12/08/executive-order-on-catalyzing-clean-energy-industries-and-jobs-through-federal-sustainability/. The "Federal Building Performance Standards" are referenced in section 3 of the strategy matrix for the Federal Sustainability Plan that went along with the executive order: https://www.sustainability.gov./federalsustainabilityplan/targets-actions.html. I'm wondering if the performance standards might address carbon in a more direct way than the Guiding Principles have addressed it. The CEQ is supposed to release implementation instructions for the EO sometime in the next two months, so hopefully there will be some news by that point.
