Hello Gurus,
I’m writing to share with you an effort a small group of lighting designers from the Boston area started which is now rolling into a large scale effort. We’ve put together a Lighting Advocacy Letter to accelerate the sustainability of lighting products. Inspired by the AIA Materials Pledge, the letter is intended to stimulate a collective dialogue with the lighting manufacturing community about how to align intent and action around a common framework for sustainability within the lighting industry. It is written on behalf of lighting specifiers (including lighting designers, architects, interior designers, landscape architects, etc.) and directed to lighting manufacturers, asking for increased material transparency with luminaries so that we, as designers, can make more informed decisions. We currently are up to over 50 signatories!
We have moved into the formal launch phase of the letter, which is being hosted on the Mindful Materials website. This letter is an opportunity to publicly commit to making more informed lighting specification choices and supporting an ongoing dialogue with manufacturers to reduce the impacts of the built environment. If you think your design firm would be interested in supporting and signing on, please review the letter here: https://www.mindfulmaterials.com/lighting-advocacy-letter.
We are also excited to announce a Next Steps Webinar for 3/3/21 @5p EST for signatories and interested parties, to continue the conversation and get more specific as to how to propel this commitment into measurable action. If you are interested in learning more, you can check out the details here as well: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lighting-the-way-advocacy-action-for-lighting-design-tickets-219340863427
Thanks so much for your help with this effort and wishing you the best!
