Embodied Carbon Specification templates

I am excited to announce that BuildingTransparency.org just launched downloadable specs and associated guidance that a couple of us have been working on for a few months.  Here is the EC3 announement:

  • Today we are happy to announce that downloadable project specification language has been added to the plan and to the "Resources/Documents" page on our website, thanks to the hard work and insight from an amazing group of specification writers, led by Lona RerickBeth Stroshane and Anne Hicks Harney.
  • Access the full plan as a flipbook or pdf, as well as download all of the associated template documents, here: https://lnkd.in/gbMct7sV

Please let Lona and/or I know if you have any feedback or questions.

Hi, Lona and Anne. This looks fantastic, thank you! It looks so comprehensive but I am noticing some missing teammates from an integrated team approach (site, civil, MEP). It would be great if this tool could work on embodied carbon under the integrated umbrellas of AIA2030, MEP2040, and SE2050. (https://carbonleadershipforum.org/mep2040/). I also like the Pathfinder Tool (https://climatepositivedesign.com/pathfinder/). Maybe for the next draft? Thank you all for this!

This is great timing. We’ve just been strategizing with our spec writer on how to better support EC3 efforts in the specification for a few projects. Thanks brilliant people! Great timing for us as well - thanks so much for doing all this legwork so implementation is easy for the rest of us!

The low embodied carbon specifications are a little hard to find among the other "ECAP" owner process documents on the Building Transparency site.  You are looking for three specification documents which you can download.
  • Specification Instructions:  https://buildingtransparency-live-87c7ea3ad4714-809eeaa.divio-media.com/filer_public/e5/88/e588fd7f-ca66-4634-b10d-a04180a52201/ecap_specifications_instructions_-_final.docx
  • Template Specification Language:   https://buildingtransparency-live-87c7ea3ad4714-809eeaa.divio-media.com/filer_public/83/e0/83e00966-f9d9-4353-a822-a01d3cb9d78f/ecap_template_specification_language_-_final.docx
  • Specifications Template Matrix (this is where you work out the GWP targets that you will set for each project):   https://buildingtransparency-live-87c7ea3ad4714-809eeaa.divio-media.com/filer_public/85/15/85153c38-7453-4535-8de4-abc587fc0044/ecap_specifications_template_matrix_-_final.xlsx

Many thanks Anne and Lona!  I've had a couple of people at Ratcliff focusing on how to integrate embodied carbon into their standard specifications and they've been struggling a bit.  These documents will really help them focus in on the mechanics of how to make actually make this task happen. Brilliant! Thank you all! much needed and many thanks for the wonderful work. Now we have no excuse. Although you might still need to teach our profession how to read specs :)
