Baseline lighting and lighting controls

Hi,

I have two questions:

  1. According to ASHRAE std. 90.1 2016 Table G3.1.6 Lighting, "Interior lighting power in the baseline building design shall be determined using the values in Table G3.7", does this mean that only the space by space method can be used to create the baseline building model or is it a mistake in the table and it should instead refer to both G3.7 and 3.8?
  2. According to ASHRAE std. 90.1 2016 Table G3.7, "b. For manual-ON or partial-auto-ON occupancy sensors, the occupancy sensor reduction factor shall be multiplied by 1.25.", does this mean that manual controls get a higher reduction factor compared to fully automatic controls?

1. The baeline model needs to use the space-by-space method. The only reference to G3.8 is related to the requirement adding it to the mandatory provisions in Section G1.2.1. 2. Yes that appears to be the case.

Hello! This topic is indeed very pertinent. I do have another doubt regarding ASHRAE std. 90.1 2016 Table G3.1.6 Lighting. In addition to what was stated above, the table also states "No additional automatic lighting controls, e.g.automatic controls for daylight utilization and occupancy sensors in space types not listed above, shall be modeled in the baseline building design." As per I read this, the Baseline model does not have daylight dimming in any space, correct? I apologize if this has been discussed elsewhere, but I haven't found any reference in the forum. Thank you all in advance!

Correct. This is because ASHRAE 90.1-2016 Appendix G establishes a stable baseline which is based on 90.1-2004 requirements, which did not include daylighting controls.
