Registration Now Open for Fall Peer Network Events!

Hello Sustainable Construction Leaders!

I have an exciting announcement today, fall Peer Network events are now open for registration! You can see all the event details and register here!

Based on feedback we received from past events and the most recent surveys, we decided against doing one long week of events for this fall and instead broke them up, some virtual events and one in-person. Our BuildingGreen team has appreciated all the feedback and support you all have offered in the process of planning these events!

Each individual event you register for, you will also be registered for any relevant Zoom meetings for virtual events and you will receive further details closer to the event from us.

Please note: at the bottom of the registration page there is a downloadable PDF listing all the events if needed!

We are looking forward to connecting with you for these deep dive conversations. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach me directly, roseann@buildinggreen.com.

Hi folks, The warnings and worrisome indicators keep coming—about COVID, about the climate, about the disproportionate impact of all these crises on those who can least afford it. But with all this bad news there is also encouragement: more people, from more places, are stepping up and joining the effort. How can we, as sustainability leaders, guide and channel this growing interest? Which solutions have the most potential to move the needle? How do we shift gears from incremental improvements to a paradigm shift in the built environment? And how do we support and empower each other as agents of change? The series of events we’ve planned for this fall all aim to explore and unpack these questions in different ways. We have our first regional Mini-Summit kicking off in Boston in a few weeks, followed by a series of great virtual events in October. If you haven’t checked out the information-and-registration page yet, this would be a great time to take a look!

Hello Sustainable Construction Leaders, Here’s a reminder to register for the various fall Peer Networks events!
You will find further details in the registration page hereAn important note: All sessions are now approved for both GBCI Continuing Education Units and AIA HSW Learning Units. These events will follow a general structure that keeps true to Peer Networks events in the past: we will gather to learn from each other by diving deep into conversations on topics chosen by you all! The general flow of activities begins with setting the stage of the topic(s) at hand, we then move into breakouts to explore challenges and opportunities for the set topics, and come back together as a group to digest conversation across the breakouts. Fall events in chronological order — read more about each here in the registration page! Boston Region Mini-Summit - Reconnect in person looking at three parallel topics with opportunities for networking and getting (re)acquainted within and across our networks. Questions/concerns about getting together in person? See here for more information and the latest updates!
Thursday, September 9th, 2021 | 1pm–5pm ET (followed by a happy hour!)
In-person (will move to virtual if there is an increased safety risk)
Price: $150.00
CEUs: 3 GBCI CEUs and 3 AIA HSW LUs Topics - Dividing into three parallel sessions:
  • The new net-zero stretch code. What's in it, how to advocate for its adoption, and what suggestions we might have for how to evolve it to better align with carbon reduction targets.
  • The proposed Building Energy Reporting and Disclosure Ordinance: is it enough to move the needle on emissions from existing buildings?
  • Materials in the Boston market: opportunities with salvaged materials, low-embodied carbon options, and how to get more EPDs from local concrete suppliers.
Integrated Solutions Jams (ISJs): three separate events on three Thursdays in October
ISJs are our chance to roll up our sleeves and dig into a topic that is ripe for cross-disciplinary collaboration. We’ll get an overview from industry leaders to get us on the same page, and then work together to accelerate change. We each have a role to play in this interdisciplinary discussion.
ISJ #1 - Net Zero What? Transitioning our Metrics from Energy to Carbon
Thursday, October 7th, 2021 | 1pm - 5pm ET (10am - 2pm PT)
Virtual
Price: $125.00
CEUs: 3 GBCI CEUs and 3 AIA HSW LUs MEP engineers can lead the way with understanding refrigerants and the carbon impacts of regional grids, and time-of-use.
Designers help set the initial targets with owners and will have to educate them about the shift from energy to carbon.
Contractors are needed to help reduce embodied carbon, through smart procurement and lowering jobsite carbon.
Consultants help guide all three of the above through the transition. ISJ #2 - Getting Better Materials Into Projects
Thursday, October 14th, 2021 | 1pm - 5pm ET (10am - 2pm PT)
Virtual
Price: $125.00
CEUs: 3 GBCI CEUs and 3 AIA HSW LUs Contractors manage submittals and often procure the products that get installed.
Consultants often help screen for better materials, using a wide array of tools, certifications, and labels.
Designers also screen products and communicate the benefit of better products to the client.
Community design leaders grasp the local economic and social impacts of using better materials that are often missed by mainstream "green" labels. ISJ #3 - Beyond the Property Line: Bringing Clean, Resilient Energy to Underserved Communities
Thursday, October 21st, 2021 | 1pm - 5pm ET (10am - 2pm PT)
Virtual
Price: $125.00
CEUs: 3 GBCI CEUs and 3 AIA HSW LUs Community design leaders work at the right scale for district systems and understanding community-scale impacts.
