NC-2009 MRc4:Recycled Content

Whether to open an awarded MRc4 in order to correct a pending MRc7.

The USGBC reviewer has pointed out that per LEED Interpretation 10372, wood materials that contain both recycled content and FSC certified wood content, cannot be counted twice - which makes sense, user error on my part.  They have awarded MRc4 but asked for revised documentation in their comments for MRc7 (which is currently pending) to demonstrate that the project is not counting certain wood materials twice.  If I exclude the wood products that have recycled content from the MRc7 calcs, I fall below 50% and lose MRc7.  If I exclude the wood products that have FSC content from the MRc4 calcs my percentage falls by 0.5% but I still meet the threshold for 1 point under MRc4 and MRc7 - however, since MRc4 has already been awarded, I'll need to select "open to update", upload a revised calculator file and resubmit it with the Final Construction Review.  I have not done this before and of course I do not want to jeopardize the awarded MRc4 but I also do not want to lose MRc7.  Any adivce or suggestions, experiences anyone has had that they can share would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi Jeff, I understand your reluctance to resubmit an awarded credit. But my experience is that they will want you to do so. I was able to avoid this kind of thing on a recent post review call by showing them the revised numbers then and there in a chat window, but they made it clear that ordinarily they would want the documentation resubmitted.

I have had to do this - I changed the credit form, but also uploaded a marked up pdf of the original, approved form so that the updates are obvious and the reviewer does not have to go back and review the rest of the approved data. Make sure your narrative clearly explains the changes. They were not MR Credits, but the process is similar.

I'd write to FEEDBACK explaining what you are doing. They will tell you it's OK, and then you can upload that email to both credits to guarantee it sails through.
