Nice resource on new federal funding for k-12 schools

Hi folks,

Here's a neat resource that just showed up. Pages 5-7 list exactly what kinds of activities could be covered by new federal funds, and what part of the legislation relates to each activity...

From USGBC:

With the passage of the American Rescue Plan Act, the Federal government has now approved $176 billion for K-12 schools in the last 4 months. A broad array of facilities investments are among the allowable uses. The funding heading (by formula) to schools represents an enormous opportunity to address and support student needs during the ongoing pandemic and to address persistent inequities. What's more, the one-time nature of these funds makes them an excellent fit for durable investments in facilities that will provide long-term health benefits and financial savings.

For that reason, we joined with UndauntedK12 to publish “Five Guiding Principles: How Schools Can Use American Rescue Plan Funding to Ensure Healthy, Resilient Facilities for Students and Reduce Energy Costs and Emissions.” This new guidance provides useful, actionable information for school districts as they consider how to use these relief funds to meet local needs. The resource identifies examples of school facility improvements as well as curriculum and training that both align with allowed uses and provide long-term benefits.

This is great Nadav, thank you for sharing.  I've passed along to those in our education dept.

Thanks Nadav for sharing this. For those of you working in the education sector, now is the time to be reaching out to your district clients to make sure they're receiving good advice. There's some investigative journalism being done into how aggressive (and with great effectiveness) some of the manufacturers have been in getting school districts to install unproven, and potentially unsafe technologies in their building. The amount of Federal dollars forthcoming (nicely summarized in the USGBC document) are going to create a free for all that is incentivizing even more aggressive approaches. Even with our best efforts, I anticipate loads of schools going forward and bombarding kids with all kinds of "tech" that we're going to be fighting to get removed for years.

Are these funds specifically for improvements to buildings or can they apply to new construction?
