Hello everyone,
We recently got a review comment back on this credit saying that not all the information has been provided for end-of-life/Reuse or Product Maintenance in the matrix. We attempted to document this credit using only supporting documentation. In the case of a product that is inert during maintenance and therefore has no human impact while in use saying simply N/A in the matrix isn't acceptable. Has anyone found a good way of addressing areas of the matrix that may be more observational and not found in the support documentation?
Thanks

Hi Michelle,
We are currently working on that pilot credit for a Project but we haven't yet submitted the docummentation for review.
For the analysis we are using Armstrong ceiling panels and two Sherwin Williams paints (with different formula or use).
Did you read the Integrative Analysis of Building Materials - Guidance (https://www.usgbc.org/resources/integrative-analysis-guidance)?
We also have doubts on how to complete some cells within the analysis.
Please let me know if is possible to email you in order to exchange feedbacks on this.

Hi Olga,
I had not seen that guidance so thanks for pointing to it. Interestingly our review comment didn't allude to it. It can be challenging when you do so many LEED projects to keep up with new guidance that is posted after you've already familiarized yourself (you think) with the requirements. I'm not sure you will be able to use two Sherwin Williams paints. My impression is that different manufacturers are needed. Yes you are welcome to email me - micheller@archecology.com.

Hi Michelle,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes, I understand your point about might not be accepted to use 2 products from the same manufacturer since the credits asks for 3 different manufacturers.
But then, I read somewhere someone within LEEDuser cited the referencede guide (page 477-478, LEED Reference Guide for Building Design and Construction, LEED v4 Edition Updated August 2020) :
Defining a Product
...For these credits, a “product” or a “permanently installed building product” is defined by its function in the project.
A product includes the physical components and services needed to serve the intended function. If there are similar products within a specification, each contributes as a separate product. Here are a few scenarios:
... Similar products from the same manufacturer with distinct formulations versus similar products from the same manufacturer with aesthetic variations or reconfigurations:
· Paints of different gloss levels are separate products because each paint type is specified to serve a different function, such as water resistance. Different colors of the same paint are not separate products because they serve the same function.
So based on 'defining a product' I believe it might be possible to use the 2 products from the same manufacturer.
These Sherwin Williams paints serve a different function each.
I'll send you an email for more info. Thanks!

Olga: When it comes to the Integrative Analysis of Building Materials pilot GBCI reviewers are looking for product types. Paint would be one type of product, whereas this strategy requires projects to include three different product types. (ex. paint, insulation and carpet)

FYI to this thread. Post review call discussion confirmed that reviewers are okay with a "no environmental impact" statement but not an NA. They want to know there is an actual thoughtful answer in the box. Even more preferable would be a qualitative answer from the design team even if it's not substantiated by a manufacturer document.
