There is a discrepancy between the terminology used in the LEED Calculator and the LEED Reference Guide regarding this credit. The LEED Reference Guide uses the terms "property area" AND "site area." The LEED Calculator solely uses the term "site area." Clarification is needed.

Ruling

The LEED calculator is correct. It asks for "total site area," and pulls the data for your project\'s site area from the Project Info spreadsheet. In the Reference Guide, the term "site area" is incorrectly defined as the site\'s open area. The calculations should use total property area, not just the unbuilt site area. To use the calculation methodology indicated in the Reference Guide, change the definition of "site area" so that it is the same as "property area," and perform the calculations accordingly. USGBC recommends that you use the LEED Calculator. Applicable Internationally.
