There are several means of mass transit available to the occupants of the building within a 1/4 mile radius of the building; however they are not traditional bus lines and do not exactly fall into the Requirement Options A, B, or C. 1. A transportation van and bus service operated by the County government, provides door to door accessible transportation services to the college for those who can not find other public transportation. 2. The college has contracted with the local city Transit Authority to provide public mass transit; however, it is a single bus stop located just over a 1/4 mile from the building. A second bus stop used to be located within the 1/4 mile radius but it was recently reduced to one stop for several reasons. The additional bus stop posed a potential safety hazard to the pedestrian and bike traffic on several narrow campus roads. The students and faculty preferred to walk or bike to the single bus stop rather than compete with the large city buses on the narrow campus roads. This additional bus stop also added to the air pollution being produced due to the added driving time and distance of the bus route. 3. The College provides an internal shuttle service that picks up occupants directly at the building and can drop them off at the city bus stop or anywhere else on campus. 4. A "hitching post" is also located with in a 1/4 mile radius of the building and central to student and staff housing. When someone is leaving campus (whether faculty, staff or students), they drive past the hitching post and offer rides to those waiting for one way transportation off campus. Riders usually use the city transit line to come back to the campus. 5. An additional shuttle service is provided by the college for transportation to airports during all breaks, and to off campus medical facilities as needed for all students at any time. A Ride Board is also available for students, staff and faculty seeking carpooling. The building is located on a very small rural college campus with roads and pathways primarily designed for pedestrian and bike traffic. Due to the small size of the campus and locations of car parking, it is not practical for students to use their cars within campus and not practical for two city bus lines to be located within a 1/4 mile of the building. The multiple mass transit options for the occupants of the building reduce the occupant\'s use of cars and reduce air pollution. Please note: if recreating the additional bus stop noted under item 2. will meet the credit requirements, the college is willing to do so, but would like to avoid so for safety reasons and air quality reasons. As previously stated, adding the second bus stop will actually add to the energy consumption and air pollution.
