If a project team does knowingly install non-FSC tropical lumber in the home, can exceptions be made in any case- for example, if the lumber was purchased prior to the project team contacting a Green Rater or Provider? Can a project like this compensate in some way - for example, by donating money to the Forest Stewardship Council?

Ruling

This prerequisite cannot be waived or compensated for. In cases like this, the tropical wood must be removed; it should be disposed of in a responsible way - such as selling or donating it for reuse. Lumber removed in cases like this cannot be treated as "reclaimed" and used on a different home pursuing LEED certification.
