In the Mid-rise Pilot Guidelines, EA 1.2 requires all elements in ASHRAE Std. 90.1, Section 5.4.3.1. This section includes a vague requirement (see Section g) that "all other openings in the building envelope... shall be sealed, caulked, gasketed, or weather-stripped to minimize air leakage. What is this meant to include?
This prerequisite includes all elements identified in the ASHRAE Std. 90.1. The term "all other openings" refers to penetrations in the thermal envelope. The TASC recommends two resources for air sealing: 1) DOE Building America Best Practice Guides for assistance in air sealing techniques; and 2) the Energy Star for Homes Thermal Bypass Checklist Guide. Both are available for free on-line.
