The USEPA recently released the Indoor airPLUS program as a replacement for the older Indoor Air Package. How should the new Indoor airPLUS be treated in LEED for Homes?
LEED for Homes will treat certification under Indoor airPLUS as equivalent to certification under the Indoor Air Package. A project that earns certification under Indoor airPLUS will earn EQ 1, which will continue to be worth 13 points. The same credits that are shown under the EQ 1 pathway are still available to be earned by projects that are certified under Indoor airPLUS; credits that are not shown under the EQ 1 pathway are not available. All homes that register for LEED for Homes after 6/23/09 must use Indoor airPLUS, rather than the older Indoor Air Package, to earn EQ 1. The USEPA is phasing out the use of the Indoor Air Package, and will eventually stop certifying homes under this program. Projects that registered before 6/23/09 are encouraged to use the new Indoor airPLUS to earn EQ 1, but are not required.
