EPA\'s Thermal Bypass Checklist seems to include a requirement for exposed slab-edge insulation in all homes in climate zones 4 and higher. Is this a requirement for LEED for Homes?
Yes. In order for a home to pass the thermal bypass checklist, all components must be met to the Raters satisfaction. Part 1.4 of the TBC requires slab-edge insulation for homes with exposed slabs (less than 12 inches below grade) in climate zone 4 or higher, so this is required by LEED for Homes. This requirement may be waived if slab-edge insulation is prohibited by local code officials. This may be the case in areas of the country with termite infestations.
