Radon-resistant new construction includes five components: 1) gas-permeable layer; 2) heavy-gauge plastic sheeting; 3) sealing and caulking of all penetrations through the concrete slab; 4) vent pipe to exhaust gases to the outside; and 5) electrical outlet near vent piping. A exhaust fan is not required, but the electrical outlet is designed so a fan can be added later if needed.
