For part (a), do large crushed rocks count as "soil"? What if they are washed round rocks designed not to support plant growth?
Ruling
No - there must be at least 12" of air separating the ground from wood. Rocks that are 1" in diameter can still provide protection for pests and allow access to nearby wood.
