Inquiry

In the Mid-rise Pilot Guidelines, EQ 4.1 part (d-ii) requires projects to install make-up air sources that are "non-adjustable or set to a minimum air flow rate" to meet ASHRAE Std. 62.2 ventilation rates. However, ASHRAE 62.2, Section 4.3 includes the requirement that "Readily accessible override control must be provided to the occupant" and the user\'s manual indicates that "while the standard requires the whole-building ventilation system, the occupant has the option of choosing not to operate the system." Given the latter, does the requirement for a "non-adjustable" make-up air source still apply?

Ruling

The requirement for "non-adjustable" make-up air source does not apply to any Mid-rise projects, and this language will be removed from the updated Mid-rise Pilot Guidelines.
This is for original Midrise v2008 pilot projects only.
Updated 10/1/13 for rating system applicability.
