Can a project be awarded LL4 for the use of pre-existing private infrastructure. Specifically, if a home is located on land that already includes an existing septic tank, existing private well, existing roads, existing underground power and existing gas lines, can credit be awarded? This would prevent the need to dig a new well and septic system, install a new roadway, dig a new gas line and dig underground electric to this project site.
This request is denied. As stated in the LEED for Homes Reference Guide, LL 4 cannot be earned through the use of private septic systems. Although LEED for Homes supports the practice of disturbing as little land as possible to provide infrastructure to projects, the practice of building a project close to pre-existing private infrastructure may not be awarded credit.
