Our project involves the renovation of 5 existing residence halls and construction of two small residence halls (all located around a common quadrangle on a defined site) that will create the University\'s fraternity quad on-campus. The project will be bid as one package and constructed in one phase. Two of the exsting 5 buildings are three stories, the others are 4 and 5 stories. The two new buildings will be three stories. Total project GSF is approximately 135,000.The LEED Reference Guide states that residential buildings of 4 or more stories are eligible using LEED 2.0 or 2.1. While residential buildings of 3 stories or less are addressed by the Application Guide for Lodging. In reviewing the LEED Version 2.1 requirements and the LEED Application Guide for Lodging, we do not see any difference in the credit requirements except that the Lodging Guide does not appear to recognize the Version 2.1 updates (such as the use of Letter Templates for submittal requirements). We propose to submit for LEED Silver Certification under LEED Version 2.1 while using the Lodging Application Guide as a design resource. All submittals and calculations will be prepared as a single project. We would appreciate the committee\'s confirmation on whether this is an appropriate certification strategy.

Ruling

Yes, that is the correct use of the LEED-NC Application Guide for Lodging. The guide was created for LEED-NC v2.0, but can still be of assistance for v2.1.It is acceptable to apply for certification as one project, as long as the submittals are presented in a manner for normal review by USGBC, e.g. aggregate the data to present one unified result for each credit, and include explanations as necessary.
