This credit interpretation is to determine if excavation spoils (soils and clays) are to be considered land clearing debris that can be diverted from landfill disposal by redirecting it by selling it (or donating it) to participants for reuse.
The intent of this credit is to divert construction, demolition and land clearing debris (CDL) from landfill disposal. Excavated materials should not be considered as CDL, and should not be included in the construction waste management calculation. If excavation soil was considered as land clearing debris, then any project with significant grading or a basement would achieve this credit without recycling any other material. For this purpose, \'land clearing debris\' does not include \'excavation soil\'.There is an Earthwork section in the LEED Calculator. This section is present to cover items such as recycled aggregate and glass backfill, which may be included in the construction waste management or recycled materials calculations. Applicable Internationally.
