Our project is a warehouse distribution center that has refrigerated areas for food storage. We plan to commission the base building systems following the LEED-NC fundamental commissioning EAp1 requirements. Excluded from the LEED-NC EAp1 commissioning program is testing food refrigeration in associated storage areas and testing activities for temperature distribution of associated storage areas while filled with product, storage of lots, density, stability, etc. as determined by the user, product and regulatory requirements. We consider the refrigeration of the food storage areas as process loads and are excluding the refrigeration equipment for the food storage from EAp1 requirement as process equipment is typically excluded from other credits such as EAc1. However, we will be commissioning the related condensing units to verify that they maintain cooling in associated storage areas while empty. Please verify that our interpretation of this credit is correct and may proceed accordingly.

Ruling

No, refrigeration systems may not be excluded from the scope of commissioning under EAp1. Page 151 of the LEED-NC v2.2 Reference Guide identifies that commissioning process activities shall be completed for refrigeration systems. Applicable Internationally.
