Intent: Coordinate design and building process in 3D (BIM); Optimize materials usage and reduce overall construction waste with complete building modeling of all systems.Proposed Requirement: Use the model to generate precise computer take offs and optimization for all materials; Display and review 3D model with trades so they can become familiar with thespecifics associated with their work.Proposed Documentation: Signed Accountability FormDescription and Estimate of Benefit: Reduced material usage through optimization; Reduce construction time by building the building twice; Minimize the potential for the conflicts that are common on a typical construction site

Ruling

BIM is a useful tool for meeting MR 1.2 (Detailed Framing Documents) and MR 1.3 (Detailed Cut List and Lumber Order), and can facilitate meeting ID 1.2 (Integrated Project Team). The use of BIM is not worthy of an ID point, unless the project team can demonstrate quantifiable materials savings through its use. In this case, the project team must document how BIM reduced materials use, and the information must be provided to the TASC for review.
