Inquiry

Since the plants used in rain gardens are often chosen for their ability to consume and transpire water, they perform poorly in SS 2.4 and SS 2.5. Can the vegetation in rain gardens be left out of the calculations in SS 2.4 and/or SS 2.5?

Ruling

If it is served by an irrigation system, any vegetation used in rain gardens must be included in the calculations for SS 2.4 and SS 2.5. If it is not served by an irrigation system, the vegetation used in rain gardens may be excluded from the calculations in SS 2.4 and SS 2.5 only if the plants appear on a list of rain garden appropriate plants that is published by a local or regional 3rd party source (e.g., agricultural extension office, botanical garden).
