PROPOSED LEED INNOVATION CREDIT: GOOD PASSIVE SOLAR DESIGN Intent: Reduce environmental impacts associated with fossil fuel energy use. Capture additional energy savings by implementing good passive solar design techniques. Requirements: Show that building orientation and massing follows good passive solar design principles. Show that the building as designed reduces energy consumption by at least 10% compared to a square building of the same height and square footage on the same site. Submittals: Narrative describing passive solar design features. Calculations showing energy savings.
Energy savings are covered by EA Credit 1. Passive solar strategies can be combined with other energy saving strategies to meet the savings requirements for this credit. 20% is the stated threshold, but since 1 point is given for savings between 20% and 30% per the interpolation table, the case can be made that 15% savings would receive 1 point. Therefore 10% energy savings would not qualify for a point. Applicable Internationally.
