Acoustic Comfort: Noise Pollution Reduction Our facility is located on a military airfield where a bulk of the air traffic is fighter jets. The resulting noise pollution from the aircraft takeoffs constitutes an environment that makes a safe working environment and even just communicating nearly impossible. The base has conducted noise studies which identify area limitation in proximity to the runway where the problem exists. Since the airbase is familiar with this problem they have instituted a program of requiring an STC 52 rated envelope for the regularly inhabited office portions of the building. This will include walls, doors, windows, roof and baffeling any ductwork from the exterior. We are petitioning for review of this credit request because we feel strongly that this effort on the owners behalf will greatly improve the indoor environmental quality as well as personnel safety. The effort can be verified by submittal of the material information indicating the STC requirements, and the benefit can be substantiated by the base noise control design requirements and study.

Ruling

The acoustical requirements for this project are required by the nature of the facility location and use. A point in innovation may be available if the project team demonstrates that they have significantly exceeded standard practice for acoustic comfort within this building type. Please provide standards used as a baseline if applicable. All occupied building spaces should be included in this strategy, including corridors, break rooms, etc. Applicable Internationally.
