As stated in EQc7.2 ruling dated 5/16/2003, IEQ Credits 7.1 and 7.2 work together. If ASHRAE-55 2004 is an acceptable standard for Credit 7.1, can it be reasonably assumed that it is also acceptable for Credit 7.2? The new standard does not require minimum humidity levels and the psychrometric data verifies that maximum humidity levels will not be exceeded. Based on this reasoning, is it necessary to install humidity monitoring equipment in our project to meet the intent of this credit?
The assumption that ASHRAE Standard 55-2004 is applicable to both EQ credits 7.1 and 7.2 is correct. Additionally, if it can be proven that maximum humidity levels will not be exceeded based on the local climate, then the humidity monitoring requirement will be waived. To demonstrate compliance, provide climate data that shows peak outdoor humidity levels will not be problematic for indoor comfort as defined by in ASHRAE Standard 55, and/or provide a summary of the psychrometric analysis (without contribution of air cooling) accompanied by a narrative. That said, it would still be prudent (and inexpensive) to install humidity monitors for diagnostic purposes, i.e. to assist detection of possible scenarios such as moisture infiltration through roofs and walls, slow water pipe leaks, incorrect discharge temperature reset, poorly done wet-process carpet cleaning, etc. Applicable Internationally.
