Ruling

The credit requirements - and the referenced Green Seal GS-11 standard - apply ONLY to opaque topcoat interior paint, such as that normally applied on walls. The IEQ Technical Advisory Group has little doubt that LEED\'s original intention was in reference to sections 4.1 and 4.2 of the standard. However, because the credit language and the Reference Guide are unclear, LEED certification reviews can only require compliance with Section 4.1 of the standard. USGBC recommends that projects adhere to GS-11 Section 4.2 regardless, to best serve the intent of this credit and the well-being of building occupants. Product cut sheets, MSDS sheets, signed attestations or other official literature from the manufacturer should be sufficient IF they provide clear information regarding the VOC and aromatic compound measurements of the paint product. The intention is to provide clear verification that the product meets the requirements. Applicable Internationally.
