Inquiry

Due to the educational need for higher construction density due to facilities infrastructure and program adjacencies requirements it is the intent to set up a Conservation Land Bank to be used to comply with the requirements of Sustainable Sites Credit 5.2 Site Disturbance. Portions of the land bank would be assigned to each LEED project on a building square foot basis using an assignment ration of 1 to 1. As an example for a facility with a 25,000 square foot building foot print, 25,000 square feet would be assigned to that facility in the conservation area. The assigned land bank areas would be assigned all requirements of the creidit definition.

Ruling

Credit rulings dated 5/23/05 and 4/18/05 note that, in a campus setting, the credit intent can be met with designated open space that is separate from the project site as long as the open space is preserved as such for the life of the building. It should be noted that the proposed strategy is acceptable only in the context of a campus setting. To meet credit requirements, the land bank must be within the contiguous limits of the campus where the applicant project is located. Applicable Internationally.
