Is SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) an acceptable alternative to FSC certification? In a ruling ove 2 years ago (12.7.01), is seems SFI was not acceptable. Several companies in CA use the SFI certification, including the largest private land owner in the state, and we would like to source from them since they are "local." We have toured their facilities and fully believe their practices are worthy and follow the intent of the credit.
Ruling
The ruling from 12/7/01 still stands. The SFI and FSC systems were both considered during the development of LEED 2.0, and the FSC system was selected as the reference standard. At this time it is not possible to substitute a different system as the reference standard. Applicable internationally.
