LEED Versions 2.1 EQ Credit 5: Indoor Chemical and Pollutant Source Control Please confirm that we have interpreted these requirements accurately. In accordance with the requirements of this credit, to reduce traffic born contaminants, we have identified the high traffic entryways and equipped them with permanent entryway walk off systems. We have also identified other doorways with other requirements. 1) There are doorways to the exterior of the building that we have identified as non "high traffic entryways". These consist of required exits for emergency egress and are equipped with exit only, or keyed hardware that is accessible to maintenance personnel only. These doorways are not along traffic patterns on campus. Since these will not be utilized as entryways, we understand that contaminate control at these exit points is not necessary. 2) We have identified another type of low-volume passageway. The building has a service entrance / exit which comprises of a pair of 3\'-0" doors. These doors are equipped with hardware that operates from the interior only and they are intended to allow staff to remove trash and recycling (once a day), and receive occasional deliveries to this academic building. These doors serve a service area for the building that contains trash and recycling rooms, a fire-communication room, an elevator equipment room, and a freight elevator. This freight elevator is away from the public elevators and will not be used as a passenger elevator. This service area is a minimal traffic area, is not part of a public passageway, and is separated from the public corridors by two sets of doors. It is our understanding that these doors do not require a walk off system. 3) The third entryway condition is similar to both of the above. A single door serving the non-public area of the building is equipped with pass card access hardware that is for maintenance personnel only. This door serves equipment rooms and two storage rooms. There is no public usage of this space. This area is not on the public passage way except for emergency egress, and is separated from public area by a door. It is our understanding that this door does not require a walk off system.
The three spaces described above would not be considered high-volume entryways. Therefore permanent entry mats at those entries are not required as part of this credit. Note that the project will need to address the other requirements of this credit as well to achieve the credit. Applicable internationally.
