The University of Denver College of Law will be located adjacent to an existing sports and recreation facility that serves the campus. Significant numbers of bike racks for both faculty and students will be incorporated into the project. The University encourages bike riding and the use of the recreation facility for changing/showering on campus. The addition of changing/showers in the new College of Law are seen as conflicting with the intent of LEED in that additional expenses, materials, and resources will be required, disregarding the existing adjacent facility which provides such amenities. Given this concern, will the intent of SS Credit 4.2 be adequately met being located adjacent to a facility that provides changing/shower facilities and with the incorporation of bike racks?
Please refer to the two previous credit inquiry rulings for guidance on this issue. (0153-SSc42-081701): "The 100 foot boundary was established by the LEED committee to handle campus situations like this." (0057-SSc42-080301): "All showers used to capture this credit must be located within a 100 foot boundary of the building being certified." If the showers/changing facilities are within 100 feet of the project boundary, then the requirement threshold established for this credit is met.
