This project will be using 500 tons of steel for this 106,000 SF building. LEED v2.0 and v2.1 defines the place of manufacturing as the location of "the final assembly of components into the building product that is furnished and installed by the tradesmen". All of the projects\' structural steel will be delivered from the steel mill to the fabricator\'s shop (within 500 miles of the project) for final preparation before being sent to the site. Is the steel mill or fabricator\'s shop considered the location of final assembly for the credit calculations?

Ruling

For the purpose of this LEED credit, "manufacture" is defined by the LEED v2.1 Rating System as "final assembly." Therefore, the fabricator\'s shop should be used as the location of manufacture for your steel.
