Using the VOC Budget approach for calculating compliance, our project greatly exceeds VOC requirements of IEQ Credits 4.1 & 4.2. VOC Budget totals for those credits are as follows: Adhesives & Sealants 5.76 g/L Paints 28.18 g/L Based on the VOC levels listed above, we would like to know if this project qualifies for one Innovation Point for greatly exceeding VOC requirements of IEQ Credits 4.1 & 4.2.
Many adhesives and sealants now available have low or no VOCs; using these products in and of itself does not represent a point in innovation. As stated in CIR ruling dated 11/4/2002 - "Generally, the low-emitting materials credits are considered as a body of credits that together represent a goal to reduce VOCs. To achieve an innovation in this category, it would be necessary to demonstrate that the project had addressed VOC control as a whole. Since there are already four points available in this category, additional innovations would require substantial effort, and clear documentation of achievement above and beyond existing credit requirements."
