VOC-Free Paints The LEED standard for low-VOC paints (EQ 4.2) is the Green Seal standard, which limits VOCs to 150 g/L for non-flat paint, and 50 g/l for flat paint. Our project has specified VOC free paints for all interior finishes, and we will furnish cut sheets for all interior paints to verify that they are VOC free. Please confirm that this measure substantially exceeds the requirements of EQ 4.2 and thus qualifies the project for one innovation credit in addition to achievement of EQ 4.2.
Many low-VOC paints now available have no VOC\'s at all; using these products in and of itself does not represent an innovation. Generally, the low-emitting materials credits are considered as a body of credits that together represent a goal to reduce VOC\'s. To achieve an innovation in this category, it would be necessary to demonstrate that the project had addressed VOC control as a whole. Since there are already four points available in this category, additional innovations would require substantial effort, and clear documentation of achievement above and beyond existing credit requirements.
