Inquiry

We request that the definition of vision glazing be modified for highrise buildings, because in tall office or residential buildings, glazing below 2\'6" may provide a view of the streetscape and urban environment below, while glazing at eye level may provide a view of nothing but sky. We propose that for highrise projects with floor to ceiling glazing, all glazing from the floor to the 7\'6" top limit be considered vision glazing for the purposes of EQc82.

Ruling

In the case of floor to ceiling glazing, the parameters of vision glazing as defined by LEED is to be upheld, regardless of the inclusion of glazing below 2\'6". Unlike EQc8.1, EQc8.2 calculations do not require any specific amount of glazing area, only that glazing is provided above 2\'6" and below 7\'6" from the floor. The intent of these parameters is to provide views within a line of sight so that occupants are exposed to views within the course of daily activities and from a seated position.
