We just discovered during a site visit that our painting contractor used a product that does not meet the Green Seal VOC limits in two rooms (men\'\'s & women\'\'s restrooms). However, throughout the rest of the building, zero VOC paint was used. Because we don\'\'t want to lose this point, is there any acceptable means for demonstrating we\'\'ve met the intent of this credit? Can we seal the existing paint with zero VOC paint? Do we need to remove it? Or is there a way to calculate the total VOC limit on the project, having the zero-VOC paint balance out the non-conforming paint?
Another recent inquiry also posed the question of small amounts of non-complying paint. As established in the CIR on this credit dated 2/7/03, and stated in the LEED Reference Guide, if the project is forced to use small quantities of non-complying paint, a VOC budget can be calculated to demonstrate that the overall average VOC of all paint products (based on gallons of each applied) is below the allowed limit, by category. Applicable internationally.
