Would a project be able to achieve an innovation credit if clears and stains follow the VOC limit guidelines listed in the South Coast Air Quality Management District\'s Rule 1113 (www.aqmd.gov/rules/Rules/r1113.html)?
Innovation points are not awarded through the CIR process, but guidance is provided below. Clear coatings and stains typically represent a small fraction of interior coatings on a project. The significance of VOC reduction from such a strategy would need to be demonstrated compared to that of paints and other coatings already addressed by LEED. The comparison should indicate that clear coatings and stains represent a significant quantity and percentage of the total of interior coatings applied. It would also be necessary to first demonstrate achievement of EQ credit 4.2 before this strategy could be proposed as an innovation.
