LEED specifies that one of the prerequisites for becoming a green building is to comply with ASHRAE 90.1-1989, but this standard cannot be applied to areas of buildings used for manufacturing, or industrial processing. One of the buildings that we would like to become green is an industrial/manufacturing building, how could the prerequisites be satisified for such a building? Is there any other standard that can substitute?

Ruling

For areas of the building that have an office occupancy, comply with ASHRAE 90.1-1989. For manufacturing areas, identify and propose energy efficiency standards/guidelines that are applicable (the state code or industrial standard for example) to manufacturing facilities that the project complies with, OR, detail prescriptive measures that you intend to apply to the facility and process loads, along with a unit of measure (energy $/gallon of product) and submit for consideration as a credit equivalence.
