How should covered walkways and other above-grade items be considered in SSc 3 Local Heat Island Effects?
Projects should include all areas that are not considered roof area; all non-roof area within 50 feet of the home or multifamily structure is considered site and part of SSc 3. Local Heat Island Effects. Roof area is the area of the uppermost surface of the building which covers enclosed Gross Floor Area, as measured when projected onto a flat, horizontal surface (i.e. as seen in Roof Plan view). 'Roofs', or portions of roofs, covering unenclosed areas (e.g. roofs over open exterior walkways and open covered parking structures) are not considered roof area, and should be considered site for the credit and included in the calculations for SS c3.
