If a plant or turfgrass type is listed as "invasive" on a federal resource, but not listed as invasive on a regional or state list, can it be used for LEED for Homes without failing SS 2.1? For example, what if bermudagrass is listed on www.invasivespeciesinfo.gov, but not on the state's published list?

Ruling

If a species is included on a local or state invasive species list, it may not be used on a LEED project. If a species is categorized as invasive by a federal authority (e.g., USDA), but it is absent from local and state invasive species lists, it may still be used on a LEED project. If a list is provided from a third-party that is not a government agency, the Provider QAD and/or Green Rater have some discretion in evaluating the thoroughness and applicability of a state or regional invasive species list.
