In the updated Mid-rise Rating System, EQ 4.1 (a-v) requires that air inlets for the ventilation system must be at least 10 feet from any contamination sources including "stack, vent, exhaust hood, or vehicle exhaust". For this prerequisite, would trickle vents on windows be considered an "air inlet" that must meet this requirement?

Ruling

Section 6.8 of ASHRAE 62.2 includes the following exemption: "No minimum separation distance shall be required between windows and local exhaust outlets in kitchens and bathrooms." This exemption extends to windows with integrated trickle-ventilators.
