Our multifamily project is pursuing Passive House certification. Is there an equivalency to 90.1-2010 for Passive House certified multifamily projects?
Yes, multifamily projects that achieve Passive House certification through the Passive House Institute (PHI) or PHIUS+ certification through the Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) certification may document equivalent energy performance improvement compared to 90.1-2010, as described below.
For projects applying the LEED v4 2024 energy update, use the equivalent percent improvement for each metric referenced in EA Credit: Annual Energy Use (i.e. use the referenced percent improvement compared to ASHRAE 90.1-2010 in lieu of the cost or source energy metric referenced in Table 1 and in lieu of the GHG emissions metric referenced in Table 2).
Equivalent percent improvement compared to ASHRAE 90.1-2010 (for each referenced metric, as applicable - cost and greenhouse gas emissions)
Climate Zones 1A, 2A: 24%
Climate Zones 2B, 3B: 27%
Climate Zones 3A, 4: 31%
Climate Zones 4C, 5: 30%
Climate Zones 6, 7, 8: 38%
AND
Projects may earn 1 point for every 7% decrease in conditioned floor area compared with the ENERGY STAR for Homes, version 3, reference home (Table 1). Buildings that are larger than the reference home lose 1 point for every 7% increase in conditioned floor area. For multifamily buildings, home size includes only in-unit space. Projects cannot exceed the maximum number of points in the EA section.
