Inquiry

In the updated Mid-rise Rating System, EQ 4.1 (a-v) requires that air inlets for the ventilation system must be at least 10 feet from any contamination sources including "stack, vent, exhaust hood, or vehicle exhaust". The source of this requirement is ASHRAE 62.2, which does not include any alternative calculation methodology. Can the calculation in ASHRAE Std. 62.1-2007, Appendix F be used to satisfy EQ 4.1 part (a-v)?
Revised Inquiry 7/25/19:
ASHRAE 62.2 requires a minimum separation distance of 10 feet between exhaust and outdoor air intake, and does not provide adequate exceptions to address horizontal intake / exhaust for individual residential dwelling units. Can the calculation methodology for minimum separation distance from ASHRAE 62.1 Appendix F be used in lieu of the minimum separation distance from ASHRAE 62.2?

Ruling

Projects may use the methodology in ASHRAE Std. 62.1, Appendix F to calculate acceptable separation distances for residential ventilation air intakes.
Updated 10/1/13 for rating system applicability.
Revised Ruling 7/25/19:
Projects may use the minimum separation distance requirement from ASHRAE 62.1 Appendix F (2007, 2010 or 2013) or ASHRAE 62.1-2016 Appendix B in lieu of the minimum separation distance from ASHRAE 62.2 Section 6.8.
